Randall Barr officially served his last day as Troy Police Chief on Friday.
The City of Troy hosted a retirement celebration for Barr at The Studio in downtown Troy.
“You can always depend on Randall,” Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said. “He’s going to be there. Hes got that grit. … And when you have that and other abilities, you’re successful.”
State Rep. Marcus Paramore served on the Troy City Council when Barr was appointed chief.
“You are an extremely calming force in a job that the stress level is through the roof,” Paramore said. “And, I want to thank you for what you’ve done for the citizens. And I want to thank you for what you did and how you represented yourself when I was on the city council. And as our state representative it is a pleasure to call you a friend.”
Barr worked for Troy State University Security part time for two-and-a-half years and graduated from the police academy in Montgomery in April 1990 and started working for the Troy Police Department on May 31, 1990.
Barr served in the patrol division for 10 years before being promoted to sergeant. A year later, Barr was promoted to a lieutenant in the patrol division, a post he served for eight years. In 2010, he was promoted to captain of the patrol division and then appointed police chief on June 19, 2015.
His law enforcement career spanned 35 years.
Barr spoke briefly at the end of the retirement ceremony and thanked the mayor, city council and officers who served under him. Barr said his command staff was of invaluable assistance during his nine years as chief.
Barr also had a message for former and current Troy Police Officers that served under his command.
“To the former and current police officers and the staff of the Troy Police Department, I want to thank you for your tireless dedication to the City of Troy,” Barr said. “You are truly the best of the best. I am so blessed, and it has been my honor to work beside you over the past 33 years.
“I wish to again thank the community for allowing me the privilege of serving you for all these years.”
