Fall is the perfect time to look back and appreciate the pioneers who are the salt of the earth in this place we call home.

“On Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12, the Pioneer Museum of Alabama will offer the opportunity for all ages to learn more about Alabama pioneers and how they “carved” a place in the hills, valleys and flatlands in a place now known as Alabama, said Barbara Tatom, Pioneer Museum of Alabama director.

Pioneer Days are Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama on Highway 231 north in Troy.

Admission is $12, children five and under and members are free.

“This year’s event will feature a chuck wagon cooking demonstration by the Useless Mess Chuckwagon of Franklin, Tennessee,” Tatom said. “Other demonstrations include pine needle basket making, woodworking,  rope making,  wood burning stove and open hearth cooking.”

There will also be demonstrations in the demonstration cabin, quilting, weaving, blacksmithing, candle dipping, laundry demonstrations,  butter churning,  historical textiles,  traditional music and  mountain dulcimer demonstrations,  a circuit riding preacher, Civil War soldiers 1812 militia and more.

A special event is planned for Friday afternoon from 1 until 2 p.m. when  Troy University’s Trojan Brass Quintet will be playing in the main building’s middle hall.

For those  who appreciate good food A&B’s HitnRun Food Truck and 2 Brother’s Frozen Treats will be on the grounds providing lunch and frozen treats.
