Troy University Police investigates report of an individual with a gun on campus

According to a release from Troy University, its campus police responded to a 911 call of a report of an individual with a gun in the Newman Hall area of campus.

The University ordered a shelter-in-place alert on campus at approximately 11:13 a.m. and after an investigation of Newman Hall – and adjacent buildings – University Police said it found no evidence of a threat on campus and no shots were fired nor any injuries reported.

Additionally, there was a report of a “suspicious individual” near the Lagoon area on campus and police apprehended a suspect who was found to have outstanding warrants and taken into custody.
According to the release, though, police do not believe this individual was in any way connected to the earlier 911 call.

Troy University Police will continue to investigate the matter but believe there is no active threat on campus. All campus lockdowns were lifted at 12:47 p.m.
