Pike County Fair opens tonight at fairgrounds

The Troy Shrine Club’s 2024 Pike County Fair opens at 5 p.m. tonight with a new and exciting midway that features new rides for all ages. Some rides are designed for thrill seekers, some are fun and exciting for kids and some rides are for the more mature ages who consider the Tilt-a-Whirl a “scary” ride
Although open night was a day away, the Pike County Fair Grounds Exhibition Hall was abuzz Monday with hard decisions to be made.
Kathy Neal, with the Troy Shrine Club, said the exhibition hall offers a variety of displays that include clubs, businesses, home grown/home baked and home-canned goods and floral arrangements to needle work and paintings and photographs.
And, downstairs there is a colorful display of paintings by school children. The kids’ art area features artwork of the fall season The kids chose the yellow and orange of the season for most of their artwork. . And, because Halloween is part of the fall season, there were paintings of a pumpkins, black cats, a spider or two and some scary things, too.
Neal said there is something of interest and fun to everyone.
“The kids also really seem to enjoy the barn with different kinds of animals, from chicken to horses,” Neal said. “And, everyone enjoys wide variety of carnival foods, including candied apples and cotton candy and popcorn and hotdogs and burgers.”
Each night there will be outstanding entertainment at the pavilion. Tonight, opening night unlimited rides will be $15 with admission. Featured entertainment will be Pastor Valentine & Praise Team and Burning Bush Church.
The pavilion entertainment is free with a ticket of admission.
Gates open at 5 p.m.
Admission is $10, adults, $5 children and under age five, free.
