Pike County Elementary School Principal Rodney Drish is a goal setter. His teachers and students have responded enthusiastically to the goals set and, with determination to reach, and even pass, those goals individually and collectively.
Recently, a group of “goal makers” was congratulated, not only for reaching their goals in school year 23-24, but also for passing them.
“I’m so proud of what all our students and Mrs. Jennifer Rhodes and her second graders accomplished this past year,” Drish said. “Goals were set for students in second and sixth grade who took the ACAP state assessment given to all students across the state. These students exceeded the minimum 80 percent proficiency that was set for each home room class in reading and math. Mrs. Rhodes ‘class scored 89 percent proficiency in reading and math.
“I can’t express how proud I am of all our students who reached their goals and all of those, who, not only reached their goals, but exceeded them,” Drish said. “Mrs. Rhodes’ students are dedicated to being the best they can be individually, and collectively.
“My students work toward individual goals and with collective class goals,” Rhodes said.
“I’m proud of them in every way. They deserve this opportunity to visit the Georgia Aquarium. Drish stood firm on his promise to find a way for them to visit the Aquarium.“ If you make a promise, you have to follow through.”
Drish found a way to follow through. “ This trip was for the students who didn’t ‘just meet’ their goal but exceeded it,” Drish said. “This opportunity would not have been possible without the support of our parent fundraisers, Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd, Commissioners Cynthia Pearson and Chad Copeland, alumni Vernon Henderson, Carol Rodgers, Kath Keck and the Pike County School Board Members.
Students in the class included: McKenna Baldwin, Ryan Schneph, , Jasmine Alatorre, Johan Ramirez, Peyton Powell, Skyler Wheeler, King Day, Kaden Jackson, Bailee Maddox, Ariel Marion, Nyreim Adams, Ahna Carpenter, Addison Bray, Jace Parker, Mikai Rodgers, Taylor Parks and Ethan McKinney.
