Troy’s Bryan, Wolgamat earn ALABCA honors

On Friday, the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ALABCA) announced its Division I Coaches and Players of the Year with Troy University’s Brooks Bryan and Ben Wolgamat both taking honors.
Wolgamat was named the ALABCA Division I Assistant Coach of the Year, while Brooks Bryan earned ALABCA Division I Player of the Year.
For the 2024 season, Bryan was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Southeast Region and earned Firs-Team All-Sun Belt honors along with being a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy. He was also selected to compete for Team USA during the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Training Camp and helped Team USA sweep Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) in the International Friendship Series.
Bryan broke the Troy single-season RBI record during his 2024 campaign. He boasted a .279 batting average this season with 10 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 85 RBIs, 52 runs and a .589 slugging percentage. Defensively, he held a .989 fielding percentage with 245 putouts, 20 assists and three double plays.
Wolgamat was recently promoted to associate head coach for the Trojans. He was the leader of Troy’s offensive game plan during the 2024 season. The Illinois native played college baseball at Danville Area Community College and Purdue. He went on to coach at Danville as an assistant coach along with a stint at Wabash College as an assistant coach.
Wolgamat became assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Eastern Illinois in 2012 and took on that same role at Valparaiso in 2014. After serving as assistant coach at Western Kentucky from 2019 through 2021, he became assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Troy in 2022.
Additionally, Samford’s Tony David was named ALABCA Head Coach of the Year and Samford’s Michael Ross earned ALABCA Pitcher of the Year. All of the award winners will be honored at the ALBCA Extra Awards Banquet on Dec. 6 in Hoover.
