Local teams gear up for area volleyball tournaments

Area volleyball tournaments begin this week as schools look to earn a spot in the upcoming AHSAA Regional Volleyball Tournament.
The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots for the third straight season will host the Class 2A, Area 3 Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Troy. In the semifinals, Pike will host Goshen at 1 p.m. and Zion Chapel faces off against Luverne at 3 p.m. The winners of those games will meet in the finals at 5 p.m. later that day.
The Pike County Lady Bulldogs will head to Straughn for the Class 4A, Area 4 Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 17, as well. Pike County faces host Straughn in the semifinals at 4 p.m., while New Brockton plays Opp in the other semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. The winning teams will meet at 6 p.m. in the finals.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans head to Montgomery on Wednesday, Oct. 16, for the Class 5A, Area 3 Tournament on the campus of Brewbaker Tech. Charles Henderson will play Andalusia in the semifinals at 4 p.m., while Brewbaker Tech faces Greenville at 2:30 p.m. The winning teams will meet in the finals at 5:30 p.m.
The Ariton Lady Purple Cats will play Abbeville in the semifinals of the Class 2A, Area 4 Tournament on Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. on the campus of GW Long High School in Skipperville. GW Long plays Barbour County at 4 p.m. with the winning sides meeting at 6 p.m.
Both the Area Champion and runner-up will advance to Regional Volleyball Tournament in Montgomery on Oct. 23.
