By mid-afternoon Sunday only the footprints of the Troy Shrine Club’s 2024 Pike County Fair midway remained.

The exhibit hall was almost empty of the business and non-profit  displays that gave a “shout-out” to what Pike County has to offer.

Kathy Sneed, who plays the role of “First Lady Troy Shrine Club” was, perhaps,  a bit tired after the weeklong county fair. But, if so, she didn’t show it.

“Everything was “the best ever,” Sneed said with a smile. “The Troy Shrine Club has hosted the county fair for, I don’t know how many years, but I do know it was the best.”

The 2023 Pike County Fair was what some might say “a wash.”

“But, the weather couldn’t have been better this year,” Sneed said. “We had good crowds every night. I think the crowd on Saturday night was the biggest we’ve ever had. Everyone  had a good time. As always, the merry-go-round was popular with the kids and so was the fire truck ride. And, the grown-ups liked the exciting rides. And, you can’t beat a ferris wheel but the mechanical bull might have been just as popular.”

Cotton candy. popcorn and hotdogs are always popular at county fairs, but Sneed said the funnel cakes might have “taken the cake.”

The entertainment was top-notch every night and by Friday and Saturday nights, there was dancing at the fairgrounds.

On behalf of the Troy Shrine Club, Sneed expressed appreciation to all those who came in support of county fairs that bring back the good ole days of yesteryear.

“It was a good week at the Pike County Fair.”
