The Troy Trojans women’s basketball was selected to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.
Troy finished second in the coach’s poll behind James Madison. James Madison earned 12 first place votes, while Troy earned two first place votes. Troy was the only other team to receive any first place votes.
Troy brought in nine players from the transfer portal during the offseason after losing a big senior class last season. Troy’s roster features 12 seniors and juniors but no underclassmen this season.
“Due to the number of high-level players that we lost last year to graduation, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of votes from my fellow coaches,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “However, we are hungry to elevate any preseason rankings to number one when we can earn those wins with our hard work and sweat equity.”
Troy also had a pair of players to earn Preseason All-Sun Belt honors. Senior guard Shaulana Wagner was named to the Second Team, while junior forward Zay Dyer was named to the Third Team.
Dyer averaged 6.1 points, six rebounds and one assist per game, while Wagner averaged 4.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
