The date for the 2024 General Election is drawing near. 

Voter registration for the Nov. 5 election closed on Monday. For absentee voting, the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person is Oct. 29 and the last day to hand deliver an absentee ballot for the election is Nov. 4. Absentee ballots that are returned by mail must be received by noon on Nov. 5, the day of the election. 

All polling places in Pike County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. 

In Pike County, the two big elections will be for President of the United States and to elect a congressman for the newly redrawn Second Congressional District. Nearly all of the down ballot races are uncontested. 

For president, the Democratic ticket is Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. The Republican nominees are Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance. Three slates of independent candidates will also appear on the ballot. Robert F. Kennedy and Jr. and Nicole Chanahan will appear as independents, however Kennedy suspended his campaign in late August and endorsed Donald Trump. Kennedy also attempted to have his name removed from the ballot in key battleground states. Charles Oliver and Mike Ter Maat as well as Jill Stein and Samson Komlan-“LeBeau” Kpadenou will also appear on the Alabama ballot as independent candidates on the presidential ticket. 

Alabama’s Second Congressional District is an open seat with Democrat Shomari Figures and Republican Caroleend Dobson challenging each other for the seat. 

On the local level, several local offices as well as Pike County Commission districts and two places on the Pike County School Board are up for election. However, all of the races are uncontested. See the sample ballot. 

Voter identification is required in order to vote. Voters can present one of the following valid forms of identification:

• Valid Alabama Driver’s License – including Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Digital Driver’s License (not expired or expired less than 60 days)
• Valid Alabama Non Driver ID – including Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Digital Non Driver ID (not expired or expired less than 60 days)
• Valid free Alabama Photo Voter ID card
• Valid State-issued ID (Alabama or any other state)
• Valid Employee ID from Federal Government, State of Alabama, County, Municipality, Board, or other entity of this state , Valid student or employee ID from a public or private college or university in the State of Alabama (including postgraduate technical or professional schools)
• Valid student or employee ID issued by a state institution of higher learning in any other state
• Valid Military ID 
• Valid Tribal ID
