Troy University gears up for Nov. 2 Homecoming celebration

Troy University will celebrate Homecoming on Nov. 2, as the Trojans welcome Sun Belt Conference-foe Coastal Carolina to Veterans Memorial Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

This year’s Homecoming theme is “Trojans: The Most Wanted.” Troy students and organizations will compete in various activities throughout the week.

The day will be filled with festivities, beginning with the annual Homecoming Parade in downtown Troy. The parade, which is set to begin at 10 a.m., is presented by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Following the parade, various alumni groups will tailgate across campus. The Troy Alumni Association will hold its alumni tailgate at the Alumni House, beginning at noon.

The Homecoming Court will be introduced during pregame activities, and the Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime. Also, during halftime, the University will recognize this year’s Alumni of the Year recipients with an on-the-field presentation. This year, three Alumni of the Year awards will be presented to Derek Ellington (’92), Alison Scott Wingate Hosp (’99) and Dr. Kathy L. Murphy (’81). Jason Jones will be honored with an Honorary Alumnus of the Year award.

“Homecoming is always a special time for the Troy family,” said Faith Byrd, Director of Alumni Affairs. “I want to take this opportunity to invite all alumni and friends to come back home for Homecoming. I encourage you to take this opportunity to see our beautiful and growing campus, renew old friendships and make new ones, tailgate and celebrate your pride in your alma mater and, of course, cheer on the Trojans to victory.”

Another part of the day’s festivities that has become an annual tradition, the Trojan Tailgaters Alumni Chapter’s Scholarship Ball, is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday in the Lamar P. Higgins Ballroom, located on the second floor of the Trojan Center on the Troy Campus. The event provides alumni, family and friends the opportunity to come together to support the chapter’s scholarship and enjoy of evening of fellowship, music and dancing. Tickets are $50.
