The Troy Trojans (1-6, 0-3) hit the road this Saturday, Oct. 26, to face off against the Arkansas State Red Wolves (4-3, 2-1) as Troy is looking to snap its current three-game losing streak.

Since joining Division I football in 1993, Troy has had just five losing streaks that reached four games or more. The Trojans lost four straight in both 1997 and 2006 before losing five straight in 2011. The Trojans also lost five straight in 2014 and four straight in 2015. Troy’s never lost more than five in a row in is Division I history.

The Trojans are coming off a frustrating Tuesday night 25-9 loss to rival South Alabama last week, while Arkansas State throttled Southern Miss 44-28 last week. Arkansas State currently sits in a tie for third place in the Sun Belt West, while Troy is in last place with Southern Miss.

Coming in to this week, Arkansas State’s offense ranks 11th in scoring in the conference, while Troy’s offense ranks 13th. The Red Wolf defense also ranks 11th in scoring, while Troy’s is in eighth place. The Arkansas State offense also ranks 10th in total offense, 10th in rushing offense and eighth in passing offense. The Troy offense is ranked 12th in total offense, 13th in rushing offense and 11th in passing offense.

On the defensive side, Arkansas State is ranked 13th in total defense, 13th in rush defense and 11th in pass defense. The Troy defense ranks fifth in total defense, seventh in rush defense and third in pass defense.

While the Troy offense ranks just 12th in first downs gained, the Trojan defense ranks third in first downs allowed. The Troy offense is also ranked second in third conversions, while the Troy defense is sixth in third conversions allowed. Arkansas State is seventh in first downs gained and last in opponent first downs, while the Red Wolves are ninth in third conversions and last in opponent third down conversions.

The Arkansas State offense is led by quarterback Jaylen Raynor, who has completed 143-of-236 passes for 1,518 yards, seven touchdown and six interceptions.

Troy will have to go the rest of the year without its starting quarterback Goose Crowder, who will miss the remainder of the season with an “upper body” injury. Both Tucker Kilcrease and Matt Caldwell have started at quarterback this season in Crowder’s place and this week head coach Gerad Parker said that both would play moving forward.

As the season goes on, the Troy running game, which has struggled at times, will be called on more and more. Damien Taylor ranks 11th in the country in yards after contact and has tallied 422 yards and two scores on 74 carries, while Gerald Green has also picked up steam in recent weeks with 215 yards and one touchdown on 53 carries. Troy receiver Devonte Ross ranks second in the conference with 38 catches for 626 yards and eight touchdowns.

Troy’s Jordan Stringer ranks 10th in the conference with 54 total tackles this season, while Brendan Jackson ranks second in the conference with nine tackles-for-loss. The Troy defense has struggled to force turnovers, however, with just four total turnovers. That number ranks dead last in the conference. Troy, though, has recorded 38 tackles-for-loss in the last five games, including 14 last week.

Troy and Arkansas State will kickoff at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
