Rustic Linen in Troy is known for its home décor and ladies apparel but every year the shop becomes a Christmas City of sorts.
Barbara Ward opened Rustic Linen in Troy back in 2017 after seeing a need for home décor.
“We started out as home décor because there was really nowhere in Troy to buy home décor unless you went to a furniture store,” Ward said. “This past spring, we started doing ladies apparel. We thought that Troy could use another store that sold clothes to older ladies, not necessarily aimed at the college age women. We wanted to offer the ladies in town an alternative instead of going to Dothan or Montgomery to shop.”
Ward, who said she’s been in retail her whole life, said she couldn’t envision seeing herself doing anything else.
“This is just something I wanted to do,” she said of opening Rustic Linen. “I love my customers, we have fun, I enjoy what I do and I love the girls I work with.”
Ward said that Christmas is a special time of year for her, and as a result, in October Rustic Linen begins to transform for Christmas.
“We have been working on Christmas for two weeks now,” she said with a smile. “Every year, we basically turn the store into a Christmas shop. We have fun doing it and it’s our busiest time of year.”
It will get even busier as Rustic Linen holds its annual Christmas Open House Nov. 8-9.
“We try to do it up big and we’re expecting a good crowd,” Ward emphasized. “Nov. 8-9 is our open house and we really enjoy doing it.”
