The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans will open the 2024-2025 basketball season on the road on Thursday, Nov. 7, against Pike Road.
Charles Henderson was a young team in head coach LaKenya Knight’s first season last year and will be young again this year, but Knight is excited after a hardworking offseason.
“The summer went pretty well,” Knight said. “We had a great amount of kids come out for summer workouts, way more than last year, so we were able to see some positive things over the summer.”
Freshman Kamari Stroizer is back to help lead the Trojans this year after earning All-Messenger honors as an eighth grader last season. She averaged 6.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals as an eighth grader. Knight also pointed to newcomer Reaghan Worley as a leader on the team. Worley is the daughter of Troy assistant basketball coach Mike Worley.
“We have Reaghan Worley playing this season and she is going to be a big helping hand for us,” Knight said. “Kamari Stroizer is an upcoming ninth grader who was a starter for us as an eighth grader. Those two will be key players for us.”
With still a young team taking the court, Knight wants to continue rebuilding the Trojans’ foundation.
“We want to win more games than we did last year,” she continued. “We want to continue to build on what we’ve been talking about, which is rebuilding the program. We also just want to have fun. Everyone wants to have fun but at the same time, we want to win.”
The Lady Trojans will look to start the winning this Thursday on the road against Pike Road.
“We need to be disciplined,” Knight said. “We need to play with confidence and show some of the hard work and dedication we had this summer and in the preseason. Let everyone see we’ve been working hard.”
