The Troy Trojans will honor the 15-year anniversary of the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Champions during its season finale against Southern Miss on Nov. 30.
All members of the 2009 team will receive complimentary tickets to the game and will join the 2024 squad for the Trojan Walk prior to the game. Also, Troy Athletics will hold a pregame tailgate party for the 2009 team at Tailgate Terrace. During the game, the 2009 team will also be honored on the field to celebrate their championship season.
The 2009 Sun Belt Champions were legendary coach Larry Blakeney’s second to last conference championship team and his only Trojan team to go 8-0 in conference play. After losing to Bowling Green and No. 1 Florida to open the season, Troy ripped off seven straight wins against UAB, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, FIU, North Texas, ULM and Western Kentucky. After a loss to Arkansas, Troy finished off the regular season with wins over Florida Atlantic and Louisiana. Troy went on to drop an exciting 44-41 double overtime loss to No. 25 Central Michigan in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile to close out the season.
The 2009 team was led by Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year Levi Brown, who broke the Troy single season passing record with 4,254 yards, becoming the first player in the conference to ever surpass 4,000 passing yards. Future New York Giant – and current Eufaula High School head coach – Jerrel Jernigan caught 71 passes for 1,101 yards and four touchdowns that season. The Troy offense also featured Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Shawn Southward and DuJuan Harris at running back.
The Trojan defense was anchored by the “Killer Bs” linebackers Boris Lee and Bear Woods. The duo combined for 170 tackles, 19.5 tackles-for-loss, six sacks and two interceptions.
Members of the 2009 team are asked to RSVP with Jack Brown at, (334) 808-6341 or jdbrown@troy.edu.
