Christmas is a special time of the year and a time to acknowledge and remember those who have been the embodiment of the Christmas spirit every day all year long.

On Thursday night, the 2024 Brundidge Christmas Parade acknowledged the giving spirit of one of its own, Lamar Steed whose wife, Shirley Steed, was featured as the parade Grand Marshal in memory and honor of her husband. The honor was shared with the couple’s son, Mark Steed and daughter, Maria Strother. Their oldest daughter, Beverly, is spending Christmas with her dad this year.

“The 2024 Brundidge Christmas Parade was especially special to all of us as we honored the memory of Lamar Steed,” said Dixie Shehane said. “Lamar loved this time of the year so, around the first of November, he would begin planning our Christmas Parade. He would go over every detail each week to ensure we knew what to do.”

Shehane said any of those who never met Lamar Steed missed a blessing.

“Mister Lamar was a devout Christian, a husband, granddad and a great-grandad. He was a business owner, head deacon, a Rotarian for over 50 years and chaired several committees appointed by the City of Brundidge.”

For Shehane personally, Steed was a mentor and friend.

“Lamar gave unselfishly to our great city and community. He was a motivator. If he asked you to do something, you just couldn’t say ‘no.’

“At the City of Brundidge’s 2024 Christmas Parade, our community is saying ‘thank you’ to Lamar’s family for sharing him with us. Our lives have been touched by the example he gave us of love, kindness and serving others.”
