Troy Football earns 10 spots on All-Sun Belt Team

On Thursday, the Sun Belt Conference released its annual football All-Sun Belt team and a total of eights Troy Trojans earned 10 different spots on the All-Sun Belt.
Junior receiver Devonte Ross was the only Trojan to earn First-Team honors, making it both as a receiver and an All-Purpose athlete. Ross also made the Second-Team as a kick returner. Ross caught 76 passes for 1,044 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, becoming the first Trojan to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving since 2012. He led the Sun Belt with 11 touchdown catches. He also returned nine punts for 153 yards and a touchdown along with 214 yards on kickoff returns.
Also, both junior running back Damien Taylor and senior offensive lineman Daniel King were named to the All-Sun Belt Second-Team. Taylor rushed for 1,010 yards and seven touchdowns on 173 carries in 2024. King spent his time in 2024 playing both right tackle and right guard, allowing just two sacks in 408 pass blocking situations. He was also ranked fourth in run blocking in the Sun Belt.
Senior linebacker Brendan Jackson was the only Trojan to be named to the All-Sun Belt Third-Team. Jackson was second on the team with 77 tackles this season and ranked third in the conference with 16 tackles-for-loss. He also had two sacks on the year.
Junior defensive back Devin Lafayete, junior defensive lineman Luis Medina, junior offensive lineman Eli Russ and junior linebacker Jordan Stringer all earned All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention.
Lafayette finished the season with 50 tackles, six tackles-for-loss and a pass breakup, while Stringer led Troy in tackling with 78 stops along with 7.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks and an interception.
Russ started at both center and offensive guard for Troy this season, while Medina earned 17 tackles, one tackle-for-loss and two quarterback hurries.
Marshall’s Mike Green was named Sun Belt Player of the Year, while Louisiana quarterback Ben Woolridge earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and Georgia Southern linebacker Marques Watson-Trent earned Defensive Player of the Year. Marshall quarterback Braylon Braxton earned Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year. ULM running back Ahmad Hardy earned Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, while Louisiana’s Michael Desormeaux was named Coach of the Year.
