The Pike County Sheriff’s Office continues its mission to connect with elementary school students in December.

Deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office cruised onto the campus of Pike County Elementary School Friday morning not long after the sun came up. The deputies were joined by Sheriff Russell Thomas and Brundidge Police Chief Sam Green to welcome students to school.

“High-Five Friday is a new way and good way for the officers with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department to interact with students,”  Thomas said. “Our department is always looking for more and different ways to be a part of our community and we don’t know of a better way than to interact with the kids.”

Thomas said the PCSO wanted children to think of law enforcement officers as friends and that they can depend on deputies for help. He said High Five Friday as an opportunity for students and law enforcement officers to interact and build a trusting relationship.

As students departed buses and were dropped off by students, they got high fives and words of encouragement from the law enforcement officers that had weathered the chilly morning to greet them.

After all of the students arrived at homeroom and answered roll call, the student from each elementary school class that was selected as the student of the month, was called to the gymnasium for a certificate of recognition from Principal Rodney Drish and for a photo with the deputies from the PCSO.
