Area Hoops: Trojans dominate Rehobeth, Carroll in weekend competition

The Charles Henderson Trojans had a big weekend with wins over Rehobeth and Carroll, along with a dedication ceremony.

On Friday night, the Trojans walloped Rehobeth on the road by a score of 84-52, knocking down a season-high 16-three pointers in the process. Charles Henderson’s Laray Triggs scored a career-high 21 points, knocking down seven three-pointers in the process.

CHHS led for the majority of the game, holding a 20-7 at the end of the first quarter and leading 40-20 at halftime. The Trojans led 57-35 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Rehobeth 27-17 in the final period of play.

Jydarien Burney added 12 points for the Trojans and both Kameron Christian and Tyler Cross scored 10 points each. Elijah Holmes led Rehobeth with 21 points.

The CHHS Lady Trojans also throttled Rehobeth by a resounding 44-8. Kamari Strozier led the Lady Trojans with 11 points, while Reaghan Worley and Ava Mitchell-Stone scored 10 points each.

The Charles Henderson JV Trojans also won 58-36 over Rehobeth with Joshua Jackson scoring 19 points along with Jamarion Fuller scoring 14 and Jadyen Hampton adding 11.

On Saturday, Charles Henderson held a dedication ceremony in honor of naming the basketball court at Betty Wagner Gym after legendary former CHHS head coach – and Troy Trojan star – Carl Hollis. The playing floor at the gym is now known as Carl Hollis Court.

The Trojans also honored Hollis with a 63-37 thumping of Luverne, also. Cody Cross led CHHS with 17 points in the victory, while Christian added 11 points and Tyler Cross scored 10 points.

The Lady Trojans also earned an exciting 48-43 win over Luverne in overtime on Saturday. Harmony Hubbard led CHHS with 14 points, while Mitchell-Stone scored 13 and Worley scored 11.

Also on Friday, the Pike County Lady Bulldogs fell to Carroll by a score of 48-30. Tamieja Taylor led PCHS with 17 points in the loss. The boys team lost 70-54 to Carroll. Tra Davenport led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Khalil Foster added 10 points.

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots dropped a tough contest to Dale County by a score of 42-32, as well. The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots boys team also fell 61-47 to Dale County. Sawyer Keck led the Pariots with 20 points in the loss. The PLAS JV team lost 43-39 in overtime to Dale County.

The Zion Chapel Rebels fell 63-53 to Laurel Hill (Fla.) on Friday. Joseph LeGear led ZCHS with 18 points in the loss, while Brodie Stinson scored 12 points in the Cats for Cancer Tournament in Florida.
