Troy City Schools Awards Teacher of the Year honors

At the Dec. 16 Troy City Schools Board of Education meeting, the school system’s Teacher of the Year Awards were presented.
This year’s Teacher of the Year was presented to Troy Elementary School’s Whitney Conrad, Charles Henderson Middle School’s Debra Smartt and Charles Henderson High School’s Alissa Jordan.
“We have a lot of awesome teachers – all of our teachers – in our school system but these ladies stand out,” Troy City Schools Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Thomas said. “Especially with their responsibilities on their campuses, these ladies are very well-deserved.”
In other business, the school board approved an out-of-state field trip to Atlanta, Ga., for the Charles Henderson Middle School and High School Band. The board also approved the use of a Troy City Schools bus and bus driver for an out-of-state summer trip by CommonGround Troy.
The board also approved an out-of-state trip for the Charles Henderson Cheerleading squad and the board also agreed for the school system to provide $3,000 towards the trip. The cheerleading team will be competing in a National Competition in Orlando, Fla.
Additionally, the board approved the following personnel actions.
Coaching Stipends:
Phillip Jones, head football coach, Charles Henderson High School (effective Jan. 6, 2025);
Davarkeyon McKinney, assistant basketball coach, Charles Henderson High School (effective Dec. 16);
Thad Frasier (stipend removal), assistant basketball coach, Charles Henderson High School (effective Dec. 16);
Employment:
Anna Kate Church, special education teacher, Troy Elementary School (effective Jan. 6, 2025);
Erin Graham, elementary teacher, Troy Elementary School (effective Jan. 6, 2025);
Alyson Hays, science teacher, Charles Henderson Middle School (effective Jan. 6, 2025);
Sgt. First Class Taikeila Dale, JROTC, Charles Henderson High School (military approval Oct. 3);
Resignations:
Jatoria Carter, special education aide, Charles Henderson High School (effective Dec. 20); and
Kamryn Pettway, social science teacher, Charles Henderson High School (effective Dec. 16).
