“Great night in Trojan Arena, we had a great answer to bounce back from a loss on the road against JMU earlier, and we just did a great job tonight,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “We came out, and some players played really big. Zay (Dyer) bounced back with a 25-point, 21-rebound performance, and then our other post-player (Brianna Jackson) also had a double-double.
“We’re proud of (Leilani Guion) because she got 20 points tonight and went 4-for-4 from the 3-point line in the first half, which opened things up for us in the second half, and we were able to sit in the zone the whole time. It was just a good team effort. At the beginning of the game, we were not defending very well. We played really well on offense, but we were not defending, and assistant coach Stephanie Murphy, our defensive coach, cleared a few things up and changed the defense up and things got a little bit better.”
Zay Dyer led Troy with 25 points and 21 rebounds with four blocked shots, while Leilani Guion added 20 points. Brianna Jackson chipped in with 11 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. Wagner dished 14 assists in the win and grabbed nine rebounds with six points.
For Coastal, Jayden Marable scored 17 points, grabbed six boards, dished four assists and earned three steals.
Dyer’s 21 rebounds comes just one game after Jackson also grabbed 21 rebounds for the Trojan tying for fourth place in Troy Division I history for rebounds in a game. Jackson also recorded her third straight double-double against Coastal.
Troy is back at home this Saturday, Jan. 4, against defending Sun Belt Champion Marshall at 3:33 p.m.
