Former Trojan Wesley Person Jr. thriving in Finland

Wesley Person Jr. is having a big season for the Uusikaupunki Korihait (Basket Sharks) in the Korisliiga (Finnish Basketball League) professional basketball league in Finland.
Person Jr. played for Korihait during the 2023-24 season, averaging 14.1 points, two rebounds and 1.5 assists per game but started the 2024-2025 season with the Rabotnicki Skpje in North Macedonia, a part of Second ABA League.
In November 2024, Person rejoined Korihait, which is a part of the top-tier basketball league in Finland, Korisliiga. It comprises the top 12 basketball teams in the country with countless international stars.
In 11 games since his return to Korisliiga, Person is averaging 20.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Person ranks second in the league in scoring currently. Person has scored more than 30 points on three separate occasions this season, most recently a 31-point outburst on Dec. 21. He also scored a season-high 32 points on Dec. 7.
Person, the son of former NBA star Wesley Person Sr., was a standout at Brantley High School where he won Class 1A Player of the Year as a junior and senior, along with All-State honors.
His successful high school career took him to Troy University, where he went on to break numerous school records, including become Troy’s all-time leading scorer and all-time three-point scorer. He also set the Sun Belt’s record for three-pointers made in a career. He earned All-Sun Belt honors four times, earned All-Sun Belt Tournament honors in 2017, was the Sun Belt Rookie of the Year in 2015 and won Sun Belt Tournament MVP in 2017. During his Trojan career, Person totaled 2,063 points, 382 rebounds, 192 assists and 65 steals. He also knocked down 361 three-pointers.
Following his college career, Person signed a contract with the Italian professional basketball team the Roseto Sharks. He would then go on to be selected by the Main Red Claws of the NBA G-League in the 2019 NBA G-League Draft. He would also later play for the Egis Kormend of a Hungarian basketball league.
Person played for the Newcastle Eagles in England during the 2021-2022 season, and the STZE-Szedeak in Hungary during the 2022-2023 season. Person also served as an assistant coach at Brantley High School in between pro basketball stints.
Person and Korihait will next play against Vilpas on Jan. 8.
