Finding ‘written’ things

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Thumbing through the many “written” things that I stick back in closets, drawers, under the bed and in and around here at work, I often find written words and photos that are worth sharing.

This morning, stuffed in the back of a desk drawer, I came across a 1985 paperback edition of “More Pots, Poems and Prose” by the Pike County Creative Writers:  Kathryn J. Folmar, Evelyn McDaniel, Joan Dykes Word, Audrey Craft, Olene Barron, Joyce Conrad, Irene Holmes and Annette Jackson.

Many of these names will be familiar to many of us as we enter the 2025 winter season of our lives.

Who wrote the entry doesn’t matter; only that they wrote it.

TODAY

What shall I do with this glorious day

Before the nightfall takes it away?

Shall I use it to ease someone’s pain
Or only for thoughtless, shellfish gain?

Shall I bring some warmth to the world’s cold heart

Or strange and aloof stand off and apart?

God’s grace gave me this golden day—

Shall I make it a blessing or throw it away?

What shall I do with the glorious life

Before Time approaches with sickle and scythe?

Each day is given without fanfare or fuss.

What we make of this life solely to us.

A TOUCH, A WORD, A SMILE

The touch of a hand lifts the fainting heart

And stirs the discouraged to make a fresh start.

The encouraging word and friendly smile

Are ev’ry day things that make life worthwhile,

These things live on and not just a few days,

But stay in the heart for now and always.

HAPY NEW YEAR
