On Tuesday, Troy’s Tayton Conerway was named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Troy Basketball earned both the men’s and women’s Player of the Week honors in the SBC after Zay Dyer was also named Player of the Week on the women’s side. Conerway earned the honor for the first time this season and he’s also the second Trojan to win it after Jackson Fields won it back in November.
Conerway led Troy to a pair of conference wins last week over Appalachian State and Marshall, averaging 18 points, 5.5 assists, four rebounds and 3.5 steals with a 63.2 shooting percentage in the two contests.
“Tayton is very deserving of this honor after such impressive and gritty performances on both sides of the ball last week,” Troy coach Scott Cross said. “We all see the amount of work he puts in every single day to play at such a high level, and seeing it come to fruition is very cool. He is just scratching the surface of what he can do this year, and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store.”
Conerway scored a career-high 20 points with five steals, four rebounds and three assists in a win over Marshall on Saturday. He also tallied 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a win over Appalachian State last Thursday.
Conerway currently leads the conference in steals and ranks fifth nationally. He also ranks sixth in the conference in assists. Conerway and the Trojans are back at home this week with a game against Texas State at 6 p.m. on Thursday and at 3:33 p.m. against Arkansas State on Saturday.
