Troy Women lead country in rebounding

Chanda Rigby’s Troy Trojans have long been known for dominant rebounding and that has continued this season as the Troy Trojans now lead the entire country in rebounding.
Troy averages 49.7 rebounds per game a team, which is the best in the country. Oklahoma is the only other team in the nation that averages more than 49 rebounds per game. The closet team in rebounding to Troy in the Sun Belt Conference is Old Dominion, who averages 43.6 rebounds per game. Troy also ranks second in the country in defensive rebounds and ninth in offensive rebounds.
The Trojans also head into this Saturday’s conference game against Georgia State ranked in the top five in numerous categories in the conference.
Troy is second in the SBC in points per game and first in total points. The Trojans also rank fourth in field goal percentage, second in opponent field goal percentage, fifth in free throw percentage, second in offensive rebounds, first in defensive rebounds, first in rebound margin, fifth in assist to turnover ratio, first in blocked shots, fourth in assists and second in attendance.
The Trojans also have a number of players ranked in the top 10 nationally and top five in the Sun Belt in various statistical categories. Troy’s Shaulana Wagner ranks ninth in the country in assists per game and first in the Sun Belt in assists and assists per game. In fact, she has 29 more assists than any one else in the Sun Belt. Wagner has ben stuffing the stat sheet all season long, averaging 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Zay Dyer is tied for eighth in the country in double-doubles, ninth in total rebounds and 14th in rebounds per game. She also ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in points per game, fifth in total points, first in total rebounds, first in rebounds per game, third in field goal percentage and fifth in blocks.
Troy’s Ashley Baez is also ranked No. 11 in the Sun Belt in scoring and 15th in steals, while Ngnawo Fortuna is second in the conference in rebounds per game.
The Trojans are currently sitting tied for second place in the conference at 3-1 with Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, Louisiana, Appalachian State and Arkansas State. James Madison is the only team in the Sun Belt still undefeated in conference play.
The Trojans will play Georgia State on the road this Saturday, Jan, 11, at noon in a game that will air on ESPN+.
