The Troy Trojans (11-7, 5-1) women’s basketball team won their fifth straight Sun Belt Conference game on Thursday with a resounding 99-60 victory over their rival South Alabama Jaguars (4-13, 0-6) at home.

The win not only kept South Alabama winless in conference play but put the Trojans in a three-way tie for second place in the conference along with Appalachian State and Louisiana. Troy dominated South Alabama for the entirety of the game, never trailing. Troy also shot a season-high 90 percent from the free-throw line and 50-percent from three-point range.

For the game, Troy shot 45.9 percent overall, while holding South Alabama to 29.9 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from three-point range. “This is a story worth following with how this team is advancing and playing,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “It was special that we shot 50 percent from the three-point. Teams have allowed us to take that shot, and rightfully so with how we’ve shot (in the past).

“But we took advantage and have put in the work in the gym to get better at it. And it showed tonight. I’m overall very pleased and even more proud that two of our wing guards neared double-doubles in Ashley (Baez) and Emani (Jenkins). Shoutout to Ashley again and Briana (Peguero) for them being dogs on the defensive end. They took care of what they needed to on that end, and it allowed them to score on the other. I give credit to South Alabama. They are going through some growing pains, but they played us hard. Louisiana is next for us, and the Cajuns are the hardest team for us to play. We need a great crowd on Saturday. We need that sixth man in the stands.”

Emani Jenkins scored a career-high 19 points int he win along with grabbing nine rebounds, while Ashley Baez also tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Briana Peguero totaled 15 points, five assists and four steals, while Zay Dyer earned 11 points, five rebounds and two steals. Emma Imevbore blocked two shots and every single Trojan that played scored at least two points. A total of 11 players scored for Troy. For South Alabama, Rachel Legett scored 18 points with six rebounds.

Troy and Louisiana will clash this Saturday at Trojan Arena at 3:33 p.m. in another conference matchup.
