The Pike County Judicial Complex will be closed for at least the remainder of the week after most of the offices were flooded.

“During this week’s snow and ice event, the Pike County Judicial Complex experienced a mechanical failure in the heating and cooling system which has caused flooding throughout the administrative portions of the building,” Pike County Commission Chairman Chad Copeland said. “The jail has not been impacted and all inmates are safe, secure and fed.

“We are working with professionals to assess the damage and to begin to repair the damage to the administrative portion of the judicial complex.”

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said the sheriff’s offices, investigator’s offices, district attorney offices, two judicial offices and a courtroom had been flooded. In addition, he said the juvenile probation offices were partially flooded.

Thomas said the complex’s freezer was also affected and a refrigeration truck had been called in to store the jail’s food until the freezer was operational.

Thomas said the complex will remain closed at least through Thursday and Friday, Thomas said after that, they’d have to “play it by ear” to determine when the offices would be ready to be reopened.
