The Troy Trojans (13-7, 7-1) women’s basketball team won their seventh straight Sun Belt Conference game on Thursday with a 105-58 total dismantling of the Texas State Bobcats (9-9, 3-5) on the road.

The win was Troy’s largest Sun Belt margin of victory on the road in school history and also moved Troy into a two-way tie for second place in the conference. At one point, Troy led by as many as 49 points. The Trojans never trailed in the game and held a 27-10 lead going into the second quarter. At halftime, Troy led 52-24. That lead ballooned to 82-35 after a 30-point outburst in the third quarter. Troy and Texas State both scored 23 in the final frame.

Troy shot a season-high 54.4 percent from the field, while holding Texas State to just 28.4 percent shooting. Troy also shot 50 percent from three-point land, which tied a season-high. “It’s a very special day here in Texas State after facing a lot of adversity. Half of our team was grounded at the airport in Atlanta, and we had to adjust and leave early due to the weather,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “Yet, despite all that, this team set out to do something special today, and they did. A lot of what we did really special was the way we shot the basketball. We made 14 triples, and that adds up very quickly.

“Add in our ability to change our defenses. We adapted really quickly, and our bench came in and had big games. All glory to God. We normally recruit players who can rebound, but this year, it’s different because of Emani (Jenkins) and Briana (Peguero), who can and have hit big shots consistently. Now, I’ve done this for a long time, and I know our next game is a trap game. We have to look at the next one like a street dog fight. But for now, I want to go congratulate our people.”

Emani Jenkins scored a career-high 22 points in the win for the Trojans, while Briana Peguero scored 17 points and Brianna Jackson tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Jenkins also knocked down six three-pointers, which tied the second most in a game in Troy Division I history. Ashley Baez added 11 points and two steals. Fortuna Ngnawo added nine points and six rebounds. For Texas State, Morgan Hill earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaylin Foster scored 12 points.

Troy is now tied with Arkansas State for second place in the conference. James Madison, at first place, is the only team in the conference still undefeated in Sun Belt play. Troy looks to keep the winning going win the road Saturday against Louisiana at 2 p.m.
