High School Hoops: Charles Henderson, Goshen and Pike County earn area wins

Over the weekend, the Charles Henderson High School, Goshen High School and Pike County High School basketball teams picked up area wins. 

The Charles Henderson Trojans took a 66-39 Class 5A, Area 3 win over Brewbaker Tech on Saturday, moving the Trojans to 4-0 in area play. Jydarien Burney continued his stellar recent play for the No. 9-ranked Trojans with 14 points, while Tyler Cross added 13 points. Both Kameron Christian and Meldrick Rogers scored 10 points each. The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans fell to 1-3 in area play with a 42-33 loss to Brewbaker Tech, as well. Reaghan Worley led the Lady Trojans with 10 points in the loss. 

On Friday, the Downtown Dothan Hoops Classic dispersed the money to the athletic departments that played in this year’s tournament. Charles Henderson High School received $2,674 for its appearance. The tournament dished out a total of $85,568 to all of the schools this season.

The Pike County Bulldogs fell 53-48 to Bullock County in Class 4A, Area 4 on Friday. A’zhoree Eutsey led PCHS with 13 points, while Tra Davenport added 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs, however, picked up an area win over Bullock County by a score of 38-35. JoJo Thomas scored 19 points for the Lady Dawgs. Both Tameija Taylor and Jakayla Pierson scored seven points.

The Bulldogs followed that up with an area win over Opp 59-52 on Saturday to move the Bulldogs to 2-5 in area play. Khalil Foster led the way with 14 points, while Eutsey scored 12 points and both JoJo Lightfoot and Davenport scored 10 points. The Lady Dawgs also picked up a 48-24 win over Opp to move to 2-5 in area play. Taylor scored 14 points, while Pierson scored 10 points and Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds. Kynthis Jackson also scored nine points. 

The Goshen Eagles earned their first Class 2A, Area 3 win on Saturday with a 56-32 victory over Luverne. Makayel McBride and Ahmad Rogers scored 10 points each. Jayden McNabb also dished four assists and earned three steals in the win. 

The Ariton Purple Cats dropped to 1-4 in Class 2A, Area 2 with a 51-41 loss to the GW Long Rebels on Saturday. Easton Kilpatrick and Addison Senn scored 10 points each.
