Local schools gear up for Area Hoops Tournaments

High School basketball teams across the state are getting set for tournament time as Area Tournaments begin this week.

The Charles Henderson Trojans ended the regular season undefeated in Class 5A, Area 3 and as regular season champions will host the Area 3 Tournament on Feb. 1. Andalusia will play Brewbaker Tech in the first semifinal game a 3 p.m. and Charles Henderson plays Greenville in the other semifinal game at 5 p.m.

The Lady Trojans will head to Andalusia for the girls Area 3 Tournament on Jan. 31. Brewbaker Tech plays Greenville at 5 p.m. and Charles Henderson plays Andalusia at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal matchup.

The Pike County Bulldogs will travel to Bullock County on Friday to face Opp in the first round of the Class 4A, Area 4 Tournament at 7 p.m., while New Brockton plays Straughn in the semifinals on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. The winner of Opp vs. Pike County will play Bullock County at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal game. The championship game will be on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs head to Straughn for the girls area tournament against Opp in the first round on Friday at 5 p.m. Bullock County plays New Brockton in the semifinals later that day and then the winner of Opp and Pike County plays the winner of Bullock County vs. New Brockton in the other semifinal on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. The championship game will be held on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots will play Zion Chapel in the semifinals of the Class 2A, Area 3 Girls Tournament in Luverne on Jan. 31 at 4:45p.m., while Goshen plays Luverne at 3:30 p.m. The championship takes place on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m.

The Pike Patriots will play Goshen in the semifinals of the Boys Area 3 Tournament on Jan. 31 in Luverne at 6 p.m. Luverne plays Zion Chapel in the other semifinal game at 7:15 p.m. The Championship takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 3.

The Ariton girls will head to Abbeville on Jan. 30 for the semifinals of the Class 2A, Area 4 Girls Tournament to play rival GW Long in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Abbeville plays Barbour County in the other semifinal game at 6 p.m. The boys will travel to Abbeville on Jan. 31 and will play host Abbeville at 6 p.m., while Long plays Barbour County at 4:30 p.m. The championship is held on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
