On Jan. 30, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced more than $40 million in state transportation funding has been awarded to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects with the City of Troy being among those.
Troy was awarded a total of $2 million for the intersection improvements on Highway 231 and at George Wallace Drive and Trojan Parkway that are currently ongoing. The local match that the city pays is $792,000, bringing the total cost of the project to $2,792,000.
The funding comes from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II), a program created in 2019 by the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Rebuild Alabama Act requires ATRIPE-II to be an annual program setting aside a minimum of $30 million off the top of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s share of new gas tax revenue for projects of local interest on the state highway system.
“I am proud of the hard work we have put in throughout my Administration to Rebuild Alabama,” Ivey said. “Rebuild Alabama has helped make us stronger as we have broken ground on hundreds of road and bridge projects all across the state. We have projects improving Alabama in all 67 counties, but our job is not finished, and we are not slowing down now!”
The City of Troy and Dothan were the only two areas in the Wiregrass to receive funding this time around. Other areas to receive funding from the project includes Fairhope, Clarke County, Prattville, Etowah County, Fayette, Ashford, Scottsboro, Trussville, Jefferson County, Limestone County, Gurley, Demopolis, Winfield, Guntersville, Prichard, Montgomery County, Trinity, Reform, Ashville, Alabaster, Jasper and Winston County.
