This past weekend, the Troy Trojans football program announced the hiring of new special teams analyst Tyler Hancock to the football staff.

The Lexington, Ky., native comes Troy after serving as special teams coordinator at Buffalo this past season.

“Tyler has had proven success with multiple programs improving their special teams units,” Troy Football Coach Gerad Parker said. “We were both on Neal Brown’s staff at West Virginia for two seasons, and I saw firsthand not only how good of a football coach he is, but also the quality man and husband he is.”

Hancock graduated from Kentucky-Wesleyan and played college football at Georgetown College. He started his coaching career at his high school alma-mater, Lexington Catholic High School in Kentucky, as a quarterbacks coach and co-passing game coordinator. He went on to serve as a defensive intern and offensive assistant at Kentucky, working with special teams, outside linebackers, defensive backs, tight ends and quarterbacks during his time there.

Hancock served as a special teams quality control coach at Maryland from 2016 through 2018 and was a senior senior analyst for special teams at West Virginia in 2019 and 2020, where he oversaw the program’s analysts and quality control coaches while helping lead special teams.

Hancock became special teams coordinator at Charlotte in 2021, helping the program rank among the country’s top 10 in punt return defense during both his seasons there. Charlotte also ranked in the top 10 in blocked kicks in the country in 2022.

Hancock joined Baylor’s staff in 2023 as special teams quality control coach before becoming special teams coordinator at Buffalo in 2024. Buffalo ranked second in the MAC in punt returns and kickoffs along along with ranking fourth in punts.
