TROY, Ala.-The Troy State football team worked for two hours in shorts and helmets on Friday afternoon, working some of the kinks out a day after its first preseason scrimmage.
With no other key injuries to report after the scrimmage, Troy State head coach Larry Blakeney seemed pleased.
"It was hot out there today, and we were a little weary from the scrimmage last night, so we kept is real basic," he said. "Nobody really stood out, but I was pleased with the overall effort. We’ll get back to full-speed practices next week and start working on Alabama A&M."
The Trojans will practice for two hours on Saturday, starting at 9:15 a.m., before taking Sunday off from field work.
"We are going to go ahead and get started with our regular practice schedule that we will use during the season," Blakeney said. "We’ll use Sunday as our meeting day during the year, so we’ll do the same thing this week and spend a lot of time in the film room Sunday night."
Blakeney will miss Saturday’s workout and Sunday’s meeting sessions while attending his daughter’s wedding in the Bahamas. His twin daughter, Tiffany, has a service planned for Saturday evening that Blakeney will depart for early that morning. He is scheduled to return late Sunday night.
The Trojans open their season Sept. 2 at Alabama A&M. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
