A Troy man is behind bars after being charged with allegedly robbing the Trojan Amoco on U.S. 231 early Thursday morning.

Darren Lavaris Oliver, 37, was taken into custody by officers with the Troy Police Department just minutes after the robbery was reported.

According to Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, public information officer for the Troy Police Department, officers responded to a call around midnight.

"Upon arrival, they talked with the clerk who advised them the lone suspect entered the store and demanded money," Scarbrough said.

According to information released by Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage, the clerk told police she did not see a weapon, but the suspect had his hand in his pocket when he demanded the money.

"She was able to give officers a good description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving when he fled the scene," Everage said. "Her good description was what led officers to be able to make such a prompt arrest."

At approximately 12:11 a.m., the suspect vehicle was spotted and the arrest was made, Everage said.

Oliver has been charged with robbery, first degree.

Bond had not been set as of late Thursday afternoon, pending completion of warrant procedures.

Everage commended his officers for their quick response to this incident, which resulted in the apprehension of the alleged perpetrator.

"The officers on this case reacted quickly and effectively," Everage said. "They did an outstanding job in bringing this suspect into custody."
