discuss issues today

Municipal candidates are taking advantage of the chance to voice their concerns.

Today, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Dutch-treat luncheon at noon at the Holiday Inn in Troy.

The luncheon is a means for candidates in Troy, Brundidge, Banks and Goshen to present the public with their platforms and plans for their communities.

Although all candidates with opposition were invited to participate, not all will do so.

Those who will be at the luncheon are Altrena Baxter and Sherol Tatom, who are both running for the District 1 seat in Brundidge; Vernon Jackson and Jaine Treadwell, Brundidge District 3; Goshen mayoral candidates Jimmy Bryan and Michael Sanders.; Goshen council members Guy Bruce and Al Sanders; Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford and council member candidates for District 1, Charlie Dunn, José Henderson and Matthew Jordan; District 5 candidates Lynda Maddox, Wanda Moultry and Alex Neal.

Each candidate will have a chance to explain his or her platform and field any questions.

Jenniffer Barner, community development director for the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, said the luncheon will be "a real opportunity to learn a great deal about the candidate, the issues and the community."

The luncheon will be similar to the "Eggs and Issues" breakfasts held in the past.

Barner said the Chamber realized breakfast was the not best time to accommodate varying schedules, so the change was made to have a luncheon.

"It’s something that should be very enlightening for many of our residents and Chamber members," Barner said.
