Artists from all across the country come to Troy each year for the annual TroyFest juried arts and crafts show. They are a huge part of the success of TroyFest.
“Their participation is always appreciated and helps to make TroyFest one of the best and most attended juried arts and crafts show around,” said Morgan Drinkard, public relations chair. “And, we also have some of the best artists right here in our own hometown participate.”
Drinkard said that the local artists are extremely popular with homefolks.
“This year, we have a large number of local artists who work in different mediums,” she said. “Charles Adams and Dwight Ward have been regulars at TroyFest for 10 years. Charles will be back with his stained glass and Dwight with his handcrafted birdhouses.”
Other local artists include Walter Black, pottery; Burt Brown, Adirondack chairs; Wally Lowery, folk art; Derek Rogers, landscape painting; Rex Thrash, walking sticks and woodcraft; Shirley Tuck, jewelry; and Ashley Smallwood, painted woodcrafts.
“The Troy University Art Club will also have a booth and we are proud to have them at TroyFest,” Drinkard said.
Although Mary Ann Casey, Arthur Smith and Amy Skidmore no longer live in Troy, they are still considered homefolks, Drinkard said.
Casey is a painter and jewelry designer who now lives in Opelika. Smith, a note portrait artist, was born and raised in Troy and now lives in Birmingham. Skidmore lives in Auburn and recycles T-shirts into creative women’s apparel.
“The artists from our own community are incredible,” said Stephanie Baker, TroyFest artist chair. “Troy has such talented individuals who have such a love for the arts. We are excited to see all of the great things our local artists bring to TroyFest this year.
“We invite everyone to join us for the 10th Annual TroyFest in downtown Troy on Saturday and Sunday.
TroyFest hours are 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free.
