CHHS track and field turn in solid performances

At the end of day one at the sectional meet the Charles Henderson High School track and field teams both turned in solid performances, with the girls finishing in fourth and the boys in seventh.
Cymphany Jones had two top five finishes for the girls in the preliminaries for the 100 and 200 meter dashes, finishing third with a time of 12.74 in the 100 and second with a time of 26.69 in the 200.
Jones was one of only two Trojan girls to finish in the top two of any single event, the other being Camille Martin, who placed second in the javelin throw with a score of 86-06.
Other top ten finishes for the girl’s team included Whitney Hay’s tenth place finish in the 400-meter dash and Sharlie Brooks’ third place spot in the 1600 meter run.
The Trojan girls also managed to capture the fifth place spot in the 4X100 meter relay race, finishing with a time of 51.42 on a team combination of Jones, Jamie Allen, Kyra Scott and Shariya Pryar.
While the girl’s team was bringing in success at the meet, the boy’s team was managing a few high finishes of its own.
Three Trojans on the boy’s team finished in the top 10 of the 100-meter dash preliminary, with Detorrian Green taking third, Tre Youngblood taking sixth and Tre Collins claiming the seventh place spot.
In the preliminary for the 200-meter dash three more Trojans would claim top ten spots with Green again taking third, Collins taking fourth and Zac Lewis coming in at ninth.
The boy’s biggest success however came in the 4X100 meter relay, when a combination of Youngblood, Collins, Green and Lewis took the top spot on a time of 42.23.
Later on in the day Lewis would take second in the long jump while Siler Anthony placed sixth in the shot put.
Out of the five events scored on day one the Trojan girl’s sit at fourth place with 14 points, while the boy’s cling to seventh with 11 points on six events scored.
John Carroll High School leads both divisions currently, with 62 points total in the girl’s division and 43 in the boy’s.
The sectional meet will resume today.
