From Special Reports
For the second straight year, Troy State University will serve as host to the Bowden Quarterback/Receiver Academy. The camp will have two sessions. Session I is June 18-21, while Session II is June 21-24.
"This provides us with excellent exposure," Troy State head coach Larry Blakeney said. "Some of the best young athletes in the country will be viewing our facilities firsthand."
Florida State head football coach Bobby Bowden headlines the camp staff. It includes Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden, former Auburn and Samford University head coach Terry Bowden, Florida State Wide Receivers coach Jeff Bowden and Clemson defensive secondary coach Jack Hines.
The team of crack college coaches will instruct any young athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 who are interested in participating. The fee for the camp will be $300 per session with a $150 non-refundable deposit. Space at the camp is limited and all applications will be taken in the order they are received.
At Florida State, Bowden is in his 22nd year of his storied career as head coach with 304 total NCAA wins which ranks second among active coaches (just behind Joe Paterno, Penn State) and No. 4 all time. He and Paterno are rapidly approaching Paul "Bear" Bryant (Alabama), the NCAA’s All-Time winningest coach.
His teams have ended the past 13 seasons ranked in the Top four in the nation and last season he coached his team to a 46-29 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies for the 1999 NCAA Division IA National Championship.
His two sons, Tommy and Terry, both have seen much success as head coaches on high profile NCAA powers such as Auburn, Clemson and Tulane. Together they are without a doubt some of the most innovative offensive minds in football, college or otherwise, the country today.
