Ever since graduating from Pike County High School in 1999, Loren “Buck” Williams has made Pike County law enforcement part of his life.

Now a deputy at the Pike County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Russell Thomas, Williams began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher and correctional officer a few months after high school graduation.

After attending the police academy, Williams took a job at the sheriff’s department and dedicated himself to serving Pike County

“I’m very comfortable where I am right now,” he said.

“I always try to better myself and go with the flow. Law enforcement is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. It always seemed like a fun career, so when I got hired it was a big opportunity for me.”

Williams said that his job brings in a lot of variety in how he operates throughout Pike County and that you can’t ever really expect what kind of situation the day will bring.

He said that he could spend all day in court, answering calls, working with the local schools, or be out serving papers and issuing warrants.

“One thing I really enjoy is helping victims of property crimes and getting their items back,” Williams said. “Being able to know that you not only helped them, but also got another criminal off the street is very rewarding. Whenever we can recover stolen property it is always a good thing.”

Williams says that his job with the sheriff’s department is very important to him and that working underneath Sheriff Thomas is a good environment where employees are put first.

“Buck does an outstanding job for the department,” Thomas said.

“He’s been instrumental in solving several cases we’ve had. He cares about people and gets along with all the other officers. People like him and trust him and he’s an outstanding, loyal employee who genuinely has the people’s interests at heart.”
