in scuffle with suspect

Some scratches and torn uniforms were the only injuries suffered by officers scuffling with a suspect Wednesday afternoon.

According to information released by Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage, Jermarcus L. Grandberry, 23, of Troy was arrested at approximately 2 p.m. following an incident on Washington Avenue.

It took several officers to apprehend Grandberry and take him into custody.

Grandberry, who has also used the last name Patterson, was charged with counts of second-degree receiving stolen property, third-degree theft of property, giving false information to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

A subsequent investigation added another receiving stolen property charge, which has a $25,000 bond attached.

Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, public information officer for the TPD, said Grandberry had previously been arrested in September 1999 on second-degree robbery charges and Grandberry was place in the Pike County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

It was at that time officers with the Troy Police Department discovered Grandberry was wanted in Indiana for a probation/parole violation, Scarbrough said. The police department is still awaiting a decision regarding extradition to Indiana.

Scarbrough said stolen property was recovered at the Washington Avenue residence where Grandberry was staying.

A suspect allegedly connected with Grandberry was also arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Jeremy Eugene Burch, 21, of Troy turned himself into police around 3:25 p.m. He was charged with second-degree receiving stolen property and transferred to the Pike County Jail. His bond was set at $10,000.
