While school systems in some nearby counties are closing their doors tomorrow in expectation of severe weather, local school officials said that’s the case here.

Troy City Schools

Superintendent Linda Felton-Smith said Troy Elementary School, Charles Henderson Middle School and Charles Henderson High School would meet at regularly scheduled time.

“As of right now we are going to monitor the weather,” Felton-Smith said. “If it becomes necessary, we will look at the safety of our staff and our students.”

Felton-Smith said if it is necessary for the schools to close or start late, she will notify the various local media sources.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Mark Bazzell said the county schools will meet.

“We will monitor the weather and make adjustments (Wednesday) morning,” Bazzell said.

Still, Bazzell said parents whose children ride school buses to school, can expect some delays.

“We have cautioned our bus drivers to take their time in the morning,” Bazzell said.

If there are changes Bazzell said the system will use the Warn notification system first and go through the Pike County Schools Web site, WTBF, The Messenger and other usual media outlets to spread the word.

Pike Liberal Arts School will also meet.

However, Headmistress Ceil Sikes said if people from the outlining areas need to wait it will be OK.

PLAS officials are also monitoring the weather.

While Pike County isn’t expected to get severe weather, EMA Director Larry Davis said the county is expected to get about two to four inches of rain and heavy wind gusts.

“There is a flash flood watch from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday,” Davis said. “There is also a high wind warning from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
