to take old Christmas trees

Take advantage of the services of the Troy Recycling Center and save yourself some trouble and save our natural resources.

Beginning Jan. 3, 2000, the recycling center will pick up Christmas trees from curbside, said Bill Rice, Sr., center director.

"We will continue picking up Christmas trees though Jan. 31 and we will hold them at the landfill for anyone who wants them for fishing pond reefs," Rice said. "On the first day of February, we will give them over to Ray Sexton for the City of Troy’s mulch program. The mulch is used on all of the grounds that belong to the city."

To further assist city residents with their after-Christmas clutter, the Troy Recycling Center will pick up Christmas wrapping paper and boxes on the regular recycling day pickup.

"During the week after Christmas we will pick up six weeks worth of boxes and paper," Rice said. "Depending on how you view it, that will be either horrible or great. It will be a lot to pick up but that’s good for recycling."

Rice said the recycling routes have been changed due to the holidays. The Friday, Dec. 24 route will be run on Wednesday, Dec. 22 and the Friday, Dec. 31 route will be picked up on Wednesday, Dec. 29.

"We want to remind and encourage residents to get their Christmas wrapping paper and boxes out on Wednesday, Dec. 29 for recycling," Rice said. "Unless you save it for reuse, recycling is the best thing to do with Christmas paper and boxes. So, don’t forget to get it all out on the curb."
