CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Lucille King Boyd died Nov. 25, 1999 in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Local arrangements are by Walkers Funeral Home of Chapel Hill. The funeral will be at Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.

She is survived by daughter, Bobbie Boyd Lubker and son-in-law, John Lynn Lubker of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three sisters, Dixie King Finn of Franklin, Ky.; Carminta King Wright and Louie King Finn of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Rev. L. Carman King of Louisville, Ky.; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Boyd Whitfield of Franklin, Ky.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born Aug. 20, 1911 in Macon County, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Eddie S. King and Mary Charlotte Perrigo King of Simpson County, Ky. She was a retired professor of English. She earned a BA degree from the University of Kentucky, an MA degree from Troy State University in Ala. and also studied at Columbia University. Her illustrious career as educator included teaching from first grade in Fayette County, Ky., through college at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville and at Troy State University. She and her late husband, George Robert Boyd, spent a tour of duty in Southeast Asia where she taught at the International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In an USAID assignment through Ohio University, the Boyds worked at the University of Hue in South Vietnam where Lucille directed the Vietnamese-American Association and pioneered in teaching English as a second language to the Vietnamese.

She was also an active participant in community affairs. She served as treasurer for the Alabama Federated Women’s Clubs. She taught fifty-five Alive classes in driver reeducation for the American Association of Retired Persons. She was listed in Personalities of the South.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. or to Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green.
