While there were no championships on the line for the 9-U girls soccer team from Troy Sunday at the ARPA State Championships, there was still pride to be played for.
After losing two touch matches Saturday, Troy had one match left to play against Eufaula.
The team ended its season on a high note in that match, winning 1-0 behind the strength of a first half Tucker Earles goal.
“We wanted to finish off strong and the girls came out and just played hard,” said head coach Matt Leverette. “It was good to see after such tough losses yesterday. We were in every one of the games we played, and this one went our way for a change.”
Despite not bringing home a title, Leverette said the experience of coaching the team was one he is glad to have had.
“The girls are great, the families are great, and everyone is so supportive,” Leverette said. “The girls have come a long way in their development as soccer players.
