Start your week with good news

Good morning and good Tuesday. As we move into another week of summer fun, our days seem filled with baseball, softball and summertime fun.
And it’s easy to take inventory of the best of summer here in Pike County:
• We hope you took time to enjoy the Brown Bag on the Square event last week. It was great fun and an excellent opportunity to enjoy the charms of small town life and the Troy Square.
• And don’t forget the exciting things happening in Brundidge. A new art gallery on Main Street opened last week, bringing a bit of Cajun flair to the streets. It’s the first of several planned art-related endeavors for Brundidge.
• Congrats to the Troy baseball and softball teams playing in area tournaments right now. The season has officially begun, and we know these athletes are representing our community well.
• Welcome to Rebecca Baggett, new assistant headmaster at Pike Liberal Arts School. We’re glad to welcome you to your community and look forward to your future at PLAS.
• We’re sad to see the representatives of Girls State leave of our community, but we thank the volunteers, organizers, speakers and sponsors who once again presented a top-notch citizenship program at Troy University. And congratulations to our Pike County representatives, who made us proud.
• You’ve probably noticed the plethora of Vacation Bible School stories and photos in our papers and our websites lately. It’s the season for VBS fun, and we’re excited that so many churches are offering these wholesome, faith-filled and fun activities to our children. Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers and parents who help make it happen.
• And kudos, as well, to all those who played a role in making the Drex Guthrie Classic golf tournament a success again this year. From the pro-am to the kids clinic to the tournament play, participants raved about the experience and the opportunity. What a true treat to have in our hometown.
Here’s hoping you have a week filled with plenty of sunshine, good news and good deeds.
