The Troy City Board of Education unanimously agreed to present a consent decree to the Alabama Board of Education at a specially scheduled meeting Monday.
After the state board reviews the decree, it will be sent to a federal court.
Henry W. "Hank" Jones, superintendent of Troy City Schools, said he could not discuss the nature of the consent decree and would not release a copy of the decree to the "Messenger".
"It doesn’t become public record until the court signs off on it," Jones said.
The majority of the meeting was conducted in executive session, which means the public and media were not allowed to hear the board’s discussion.
The board’s discussion of the consent decree lasted for more than one hour. The body went into executive session for attorney-client discussion, Jones said.
After the consent decree vote, the board went into another lengthy executive session at which it discussed "the good name and character," he said.
Jones had no further comments about the meeting.
A regularly-scheduled meeting of the Troy City Board of Education will be Aug. 16 at 5:15 p.m. at the board office.
