Kid Rock wears Troy jersey

Troy assistant coach David Felix and his wife Mary received an unexpected visit while administering the school’s annual basketball camp over the weekend.
While the pair were working the camp store, which sells Troy t-shirts and other memorabilia, a man wearing a trucker cap, aviator sunglasses and jeans walked up to the counter and asked for a Troy basketball jersey.
“He had about four other guys with him and told us he had been to the bookstore looking for a basketball jersey,” David said. “The bookstore told him to come to Sartain (Hall) and ask us.”
David told the man that jerseys were not for sale but t-shirts were available.
Felix said the man responded ‘I need one to wear at a show tonight.”
That’s when Mary Felix recognized the guest.
“Aren’t you Kid Rock,” she asked.
“That’s me,” he responded.
“I’ll be right back,” David Felix said sharply and immediately.
It was five-time Grammy Award winner Kid Rock to be exact. The Detroit, Mich., native was Saturday’s headliner at the BamaJam Music Festival in Enterprise.
With a career tally of 23 million albums sold, Kid Rock was looking for a Troy basketball jersey to wear on stage that night.
“I could have talked to him for hours and not known who he was,” David Felix said. “He’s a big basketball fan and sports fan. It was pretty cool.”
According to David, the musician wore the jersey for an hour on stage after removing a No. 3 University of Alabama football jersey.
Kid Rock, a multi genre artist, is known for his many hits including his breakout rock/hip-hop album “Devil Without a Cause”. Behind hits like “Bawitaba”, “Cowboy”, and “Only God Knows Why”, Kid Rock the album sold more than 11 million copies.
David Felix said most of the kids participating in the camp didn’t know at the time that a star was in the building.
“He took a couple of pictures, signed some autographs, but the majority of the people there were concentrating on what was happening on the court and didn’t know,” Felix said.
Felix said he wasn’t aware if any other music star had ever worn Troy gear on stage before, but was glad Kid Rock chose the Trojans.
“I’ve told the story a lot since it happened,” Felix said. “He was a nice guy and several people have sent pictures of him with wearing the jersey. Pretty neat.”
