The famed Blackwood Quartet will be at First United Methodist Church in Troy at 6 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to attend the concert.
“We are thrilled to have the Blackwood Quartet at First United Methodist Church,” said Laura Mixon, FUMC music leader and choir director. “The Blackwood Quartet began as the Blackwood Brothers Quartet in the 1930s and has maintained excellence in gospel music over the years.”
The Blackwood Quartet recently performed at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
“Since the quartet is currently touring the area, we were able to book them at First United Methodist Church,” Mixon said. “We couldn’t miss this opportunity. It’s not every day that a legendary group like the Blackwood Quartet performs in this area.
“We invite all who enjoy gospel music to attend the concert. The Blackwood Quartet will be singing the old gospel favorites and those in attendance will be blessed by their songs and messages of faith and hope.”
The Blackwood Brothers Quartet was the first gospel group to appear on national television and they soared to the top of the gospel charts as partners with the Statesman Quartet. They were also the first group to travel by custom bus. As they made their way across the country, they picked up thousands of fans.
The only other group to sell more gospel records than the Blackwood Brothers Quartet was the Chuck Wagon Gang.
