The Saints of Patrician Academy are bringing home another AISA Class A state title to Butler, this after the Saints defeated Crenshaw Christian Academy 51-13 in Troy Friday.

Patrician’s wing-T offense was dominant, as the Saints rolled to a 21-6 halftime lead and never looked back from there.

The Saints rushed for 572 yards, and had three players go over 100 yards.

Patrician head coach Bill McNair attributed the success of the Saint rushing attack to the emphasis placed on blocking.

“One thing we do differently than everybody else is we work on blocking more than anybody else,” McNair said.

B.J. Boykin led the way with 225 yards rushing and two scores.

“I just kept on pounding and running hard,” Boykin said. “I have to honor my line because they did a real good job tonight.”

Brandon Meeks added 164 yards and a touchdown on just six carries, while Dylan Flowers carried 10 times for 101 yards and a touchdown.

“The wing-T is just dominant,” Boykin said. “If you’ve got good blockers and good runners, you can just run it all night long.”

Boykin scored on runs of two and five yards to give Patrician a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Crenshaw’s got on the board when Cougar running back Tyler McGough threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Pete King.

Patrician was not to be outdone in the passing game, however, as Michael Gibson found a wide-open Jordan Randolph for a 76-yard touchdown pass late in the first half.

Patrician put the game out of reach on the opening possession of the second half, when the Saints on an 80-yard touchdown that took 11 plays and ate up 5:26.

The drive ended when Gibson fumbled the football near the CCA end zone, and Walker Lewis came up with the recovery for the touchdown.

The Saint defense was also impressive, holding CCA to just 167 yards of total offense.

“Our defense probably played their best ball game tonight because that bunch was averaging a lot of points, too,” McNair said.
