At least two more people qualified as candidates in area August municipal elections on Thursday.

Shelby Tuck is slated to run for a District 1 council position in Troy and Margaret Ross hopes to be a representative of District 3 in Brundidge.

The two qualified behind six others in Troy and eight others in Brundidge who visited their respective city halls on Tuesday – the first day eligible for candidates to qualify.

Both cities are still expecting to see other people enter the upcoming August races.

“They’ve got until the 17th, so some may be waiting to see who is running before they make their decision,” said Linda Faust, City of Brundidge administrative assistant. “You just never know.”

On Tuesday, current District 3 Councilman Jason Reeves qualified as a mayoral candidate in Troy; incumbent Charlie Dunn qualified in District 1; Greg Meeks is hoping to step into the District 2 council seat as his father departs his duties there; Marcus Paramore qualified for District 3; incumbent Johnny Witherington hopes to be re-elected to the District 4 council spot; and Dejerilyn Henderson wants to represent District 5.

In Brundidge, two people qualified for both the race for mayor and District 3 councilperson on Tuesday.

Incumbent Mayor Jimmy Ramage and Michael Foster both qualified in hopes of representing Brundidge as mayor for the next four years; incumbent Lawrence Bowdin would like to continue on as the District 1 councilmember; Arthur Griffin, incumbent councilmember for District 2, qualified; both Anthony Foster and Terry Casey would like to claim the District 3 spot on the city council; incumbent Cynthia Pearson hopes to continue on as the representative for District 4; and Steven Coleman, incumbent, is running again for District 5.

Qualifying ends at 5 p.m. on July 17. Officials from Goshen and Banks could not be reached Thursday afternoon.
